Patiala Traffic Police Implements Major Road Changes to Ease Congestion

Crossings on two main city roads to remain temporarily closed from December 22
Patiala, December 20

To reduce growing traffic congestion in Patiala city, the district traffic police will implement new measures from December 22, temporarily closing two major road crossings. The step follows on-ground surveys and recommendations made by various traffic units aimed at ensuring smoother vehicular movement and resolving persistent traffic jams.

Sharing details, SP (Traffic) H.S. Mann said that under the guidance of Senior Superintendent of Police Varun Sharma, the traffic police are continuously working to improve mobility and minimize congestion across the city.

He informed that the stretch from Khanda Chowk to the lights near Gurdwara Dukhnivaran Sahib on Jail Road is being fully barricaded to create a continuous divider. As a result, the existing cut that allowed vehicles from Passi Road to merge onto the main road has been closed. Vehicles coming from Sirhind Road intending to turn towards Passi Road can now take a U-turn from Khanda Chowk or proceed via the Dukhnivaran Sahib lights and turn right from the Environment Park route.

Similarly, vehicles exiting from Passi Road toward Khanda Chowk will be able to take a U-turn at the lights near Gurdwara Dukhnivaran Sahib or use the internal road through the Environment Park to join Jail Road and turn right at the same intersection.

DSP (Traffic) Puneet Singh Chahal added that the divider built between Fountain Chowk and Thikriwala Chowk has been extended up to Fountain Chowk, effectively merging both intersections into a large circular road. Vehicles traveling from Lower Mall Road toward the main post office or the old bus stand will have to turn left from Fountain Chowk and take a U-turn at Thikriwala Chowk.

The DSP further said that motorists can also use the inner roads connecting Lower Mall Road with Upper Mall Road to take a turn directly from Thikriwala Chowk. This move, he said, is expected to eliminate the frequent jams at Fountain Chowk and reduce traffic load on Lower Mall Road.
