Mohali February 27
The President of Misl Satluj, Ajay Pal Singh Brar, has written a detailed letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah demanding a time-bound and impartial inquiry by the CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) into the alleged police encounter that took place in Gurdaspur. This letter has been sent to the Ministry of Home Affairs.
In the letter addressed to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, every aspect of the police encounter in Gurdaspur has been highlighted. Brar wrote that the death of a Sikh youth during the alleged police encounter in Gurdaspur has created serious concern and a sense of insecurity among the people of Punjab. He stated that an investigation by a central agency is necessary to bring out the truth, the correct facts, and the reality behind the claims made by the police, and to determine the real causes of the incident.
In his letter, President Ajay Pal Singh Brar also mentioned that during the period from 1980 to 1995, Punjab witnessed a tragic phase of fake encounters and human rights violations. Sardar Brar recalled that the incidents exposed by human rights activist Bhai Jaswant Singh Khalra at that time had shaken the entire country. Later, several cases were investigated and police officers found guilty of fake encounters were punished.
He stated that if such incidents are not investigated transparently, public trust in the law and administration becomes weak. Therefore, the central government should immediately intervene and approve a CBI inquiry. In the issued statement, Brar said that the central government should come forward to ensure a time-bound and impartial investigation considering the seriousness of the questions being raised about the police encounter.
