Health Minister Arti Singh Rao Says State Committed to Ensuring Healthcare for All Citizens
Chandigarh, December 18
Haryana Health Minister Arti Singh Rao on Wednesday inaugurated a 28-bed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) in the Paediatric Department of PGIMS Rohtak, ensuring advanced medical care for critically ill newborns, particularly those from economically weaker families.
Speaking at the inauguration, the Health Minister said the new facility would ensure that sick newborns from poor households are not deprived of life-saving treatment. “The State Government is fully committed to safeguarding the health of every citizen—from children to the elderly,” she said.
Rao noted that earlier, newborns delivered outside PGIMS who required ICU care faced major challenges due to non-availability of dedicated ICU beds. Recognizing this long-pending need, the government has now developed a state-of-the-art neonatal ICU, fully equipped with modern machines and advanced life-support systems.
“Premature or underweight babies often require specialized care due to breathing or other health complications,” said the Minister, adding that the new facility will reduce dependence on private hospitals and improve access to timely neonatal treatment.
After inaugurating the facility, PGIMS Vice Chancellor Dr. H.K. Aggarwal said the new ICU is equipped with the latest medical equipment and will play a vital role in reducing neonatal mortality in Haryana. He expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Sh. Nayab Singh Saini and Health Minister Arti Singh Rao for their support in strengthening critical healthcare infrastructure.
Dr. Aggarwal shared that the institute receives around 200 newborns requiring ICU care each month, and the expansion will significantly enhance the hospital’s capacity to deliver critical care. “This is not just a medical advancement; it’s a major step toward improving neonatal survival and, ultimately, national development,” he said.
