Chandigarh, Dec 31
Excise & Taxation Department, Union Territory of Chandigarh has conducted checking of liquor vends and taverns with an aim to prevent revenue leakage, promote fair trade practices and uphold transparency in the excise sector.
Chandigarh Excise & Taxation Commissioner Nishant Kumar Yadav said that a special inspection drive was carried out this month, covering retail liquor vends across various sectors of Chandigarh. The drive led to a series of enforcement actions during December — a retail vend in Sector 22-C was sealed on December 18 for violating prescribed norms; two vends at Khudda Lahora and Dhanas were sealed on December 21 for not maintaining the Minimum Retail Sale Price (MRSP); and on December 30, vends in Sector 42 and Sector 61 were sealed for similar MRSP violations.
To strengthen supervision across the excise supply chain, the department also conducted surprise checks at local bottling units. During an inspection on December 28, 2025, at M/s Zannat Beverages Pvt. Ltd., certain discrepancies were found. Breach proceedings have been initiated against the licensee under the relevant provisions of the Punjab Excise Act, 1914, and associated rules.
Reiterating the department’s commitment, the spokesperson said that these enforcement measures reflect Chandigarh’s zero-tolerance approach toward violations. The drive to ensure a transparent, disciplined, and accountable excise administration will continue in the months ahead.
