Congress MLA demands probe into Kultar Singh Sandhwan’s unfulfilled promise before Guru Granth Sahib; questions AAP’s inaction on Ram Rahim link, Maur blast
Chandigarh/Jalandhar, January 11
Congress MLA from Bholath, Sukhpal Singh Khaira, issued a strong appeal to the Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib to take immediate cognisance of what he described as a grave betrayal of faith by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leadership in Punjab.Khaira urged the Jathedar to summon Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan, who had taken an oath before Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji upon assuming office. Sandhwan had publicly assured justice in the sacrilege cases of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji and the Behbal Kalan police firing killings within one and a half months, or he would submit himself before the eternal Guru for final “Sarkar”.
“More than three years have passed, yet not only has justice not been delivered, but the Speaker has also failed to honour his solemn oath taken before Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. This amounts to making a false oath before the Guru, which is a matter of the highest religious seriousness and must be examined by Sri Akal Takht Sahib,” Khaira stated. He further demanded that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann be questioned for his continued silence and inaction in the sacrilege and Behbal Kalan cases. Khaira pointed out that Pradip Kler, a Dera Sacha Sauda follower, admitted in court that the sacrileges were committed at the behest of Dera head Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh. “Despite this judicial admission, the AAP government has not dared to question Ram Rahim even once. This deliberate inaction raises serious questions about the intentions, integrity and moral standing of the Mann government,” he said.
Khaira asserted that the conduct of both the Speaker and CM amounts to misleading Sikhs worldwide, eroding faith in institutions, and betraying Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji and the Sikh Panth.
He challenged AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal on his 2022 Punjab election promise of justice in sacrilege cases within 24 hours. “What does he have to say today, when even after years in power, justice remains elusive?” Khaira asked. He also sought answers on the 2017 Maur bomb blast, where AAP leaders promised justice to victims’ families but delivered none.
These issues gain significance amid CM Mann’s actions challenging Sri Akal Takht’s authority, Khaira warned, calling on the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) and Sikh bodies to act. “Sri Akal Takht Sahib is the supreme temporal authority of the Sikhs. Any leader who takes a false oath before the Guru or toys with Sikh emotions for electoral advantage must be held accountable. The Sikh Panth deserves truth, justice and moral clarity not deception and delay,” he concluded.
