Sulah (Kangra), January 22, 2026:
Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu today announced Sulah women financial assistance of Rs. 1,500 per month for all eligible women of the Sulah Assembly constituency under the Indira Gandhi Pyari Behna Sukh Samaan Nidhi Yojna, reaffirming the State Government’s commitment to women-led welfare and social security.
During his visit to the constituency, the Chief Minister also announced the opening of a Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board (HPSEB) division in Sulah and declared that Bhawarna town would be upgraded to a Nagar Panchayat, aimed at strengthening local governance and public services.
Addressing a large public gathering, the Chief Minister said the government was making sustained efforts to ensure balanced development in Kangra district. He informed that the expansion of Kangra Airport was underway and that affected families were being provided fair compensation. He said the project would boost tourism, improve connectivity and generate local employment so that youth would not be forced to migrate to metropolitan cities for livelihood.
Emphasising employment generation, the Chief Minister announced the recruitment of 800 police constables to strengthen law enforcement. He said special preference would be given to youth returning after serving under the Agniveer scheme, who would be absorbed into the Himachal Pradesh Police with service benefits up to the age of 58 along with the Old Pension Scheme (OPS). He reiterated that the government was committed to providing job security and long-term stability to trained youth.
Speaking on education reforms, the Chief Minister said that Himachal Pradesh had earlier slipped to the 21st position due to unplanned expansion of schools without staff or budget support. He said focused reforms by the present government had brought the State to the fifth position in quality education, with teacher recruitment underway, English-medium instruction from Class I and over 200 schools being converted to the CBSE curriculum.
On healthcare, he said AIIMS-level technology would be introduced within a year at Tanda Medical College, other medical colleges, Palampur Hospital and all zonal hospitals. He added that doctor shortages were being addressed and all Primary Health Centres would be staffed within six months.
Taking a strong stand against corruption, the Chief Minister said public money saved by curbing leakages was being redirected towards welfare of women, orphans, persons with disabilities and weaker sections. He clarified that no changes were being made to Section 118 and warned against misinformation.
During the programme, the Chief Minister also administered a pledge against drug abuse, reiterating strict action against the drug mafia to protect the future of youth. Various organisations honoured him for his welfare initiatives.
Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Chandra Kumar said that all budgets of the last three years had strengthened the rural economy. He said Himachal Pradesh offers the highest MSP for natural farming produce in the country, with wheat at Rs. 60 per kg and maize at Rs. 40 per kg, ensuring better income for farmers.
Chairman ARDB Sanjay Singh Chauhan said Sulah had suffered losses during recent disasters, but timely assistance was provided by the State Government. He said development works were progressing and a vegetable market under construction would benefit farmers.
Ayush Minister Yadvinder Goma, Vice Chairman State Planning Board Bhawani Singh Pathania, MLA Ashish Butail, District Congress President Anurag Sharma, Chairman HPBOSE Dr. Rajesh Sharma, Vice Chairman HRTC Ajay Verma, Chairman Wool Federation Manoj Thakur, Chairman APMC Kangra Nishu Mongra and several other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
