Preparations in Full Swing for Congress’s Massive MGNREGA Save Rally on February 17 in district
Mansa, February 14
With Punjab Congress focusing on Save MGNREGA and the deteriorating situation in Punjab, extensive preparations have been started across the district for the massive rally to be held in Mansa’s grain market on February 17.
Workers and laborers are being mobilized village by village to make this rally historic. In the same vein, today District Congress President Kulwant Rai Singla toured several villages including Bareta village, Dhanpura, Mander, Bhawa, Saidewala, Satike, Budhlada, Khatriwala, Sekhupur Khudda, Akbarpur Khudda, Kulrian, and Kahangarh, and rallied Congress workers and MGNREGA laborers to participate in large numbers in the rally. He said that this rally is not just a political gathering, but a resolve to strengthen the voice of the poor and labor class.
He stated that the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme is the backbone of poor families. This scheme has played an important role in reducing unemployment in villages, increasing people’s income, and accelerating the infrastructural development of villages. He said that the Indian National Congress-led government from 2005 to 2014 had given this legal guarantee to strengthen the rights of the poor, for which the foresight of Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and then Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh was significant.
Singla accused the current central government, i.e., the Bharatiya Janata Party, of trying to weaken this scheme through budget cuts and obstacles in implementation. He said that the Congress Party will not compromise on the rights of the poor and will wage every possible democratic struggle for public welfare. He appealed to the people to arrive in large numbers, make the rally a success, and demonstrate unity for their rights.
According to him, this gathering will become a platform to raise the real concerns of Punjab’s people—employment, inflation, farmers’ crisis, and village development—at the national level. Several senior leaders will participate in the rally, including Chhattisgarh’s former Chief Minister and Punjab Congress in-charge Bhupesh Baghel, Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, AICC Secretary Heena Kawar, Leader of Opposition in Punjab Partap Singh Bajwa, former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, AICC Assistant Treasurer Vijayendra Singla, senior leader Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, and Punjab Congress General Secretary Sandeep Singh Sandhu, among other prominent faces.
He said that this rally will not be just a one-day program, but will become a massive mass movement giving voice to the hopes and aspirations of the poor, laborers, and farmers. People are being connected through meetings, door-to-door contact, and dialogues with organizations in different parts of the district.
Teams for transportation, stage, security, and volunteers are also being deployed for the rally arrangements so that smooth arrangements can be ensured for the thousands of people coming. In the end, he said that public participation is the greatest power in democracy, and this rally in Mansa will become a symbol of that power.
He expressed confidence that people will arrive in large numbers, unite for the protection of their rights, and further strengthen the fight for social justice.
