Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla on Wednesday said that ex-servicemen inspire generations through their discipline, leadership and spirit of service, noting that their contribution to nation-building continues long after retirement from active service.
Addressing the Army Day and annual function organised by the Ex-Servicemen League and Sarv Kalyankari Trust at Sujanpur in Hamirpur district, the Governor said that ex-servicemen inspire generations by setting an example of integrity, patriotism and commitment to society.
Highlighting the significance of 15 January, the Governor said Army Day reflects the courage, discipline and sacrifice of the Indian Army. He remarked that the Army is not merely a military force but the guardian of the nation’s unity, sovereignty and integrity, serving in the most challenging terrains and conditions.
Ex-Servicemen Inspire Generations Beyond Uniform
The Governor lauded organisations such as the Ex-Servicemen League for connecting veterans’ experiences with society and praised the Sarv Kalyankari Trust for its sustained social service. He noted that initiatives such as free medical camps, healthcare outreach in remote areas, women empowerment programmes and disaster relief efforts ensure that ex-servicemen inspire generations through continued service to society.
Speaking on welfare measures, the Governor said the Union Government has taken several landmark steps for soldiers and their families, including the implementation of One Rank One Pension, construction of the National War Memorial, expansion of healthcare services for veterans and welfare schemes for Veer Naris and dependents.
Discipline and Leadership That Inspire Generations
Referring to the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat, the Governor said increased indigenisation in the defence sector is strengthening the Armed Forces while creating new opportunities for youth. He observed that recent military operations have reinforced public faith in the Armed Forces and demonstrated that ex-servicemen inspire generations to serve the nation with dedication and honour.
Earlier, the Governor took the salute at a march-past presented by ex-servicemen, with eight contingents participating. Cultural programmes were also presented on the occasion. The Governor honoured individuals with the Shan-e-Himachal and Shan-e-Hind awards for outstanding service in various fields.
