To mark the International Women’s Day (March 8), the Punjab Government honoured women engaged in self-employment through Self Help Groups. Under this initiative, 100 self-employed women were honoured at the constituency level.
MLA Kulwant Singh said this while interacting with journalists. He was addressing a press conference during a function dedicated to International Women’s Day in Mohali.
Kulwant Singh stated that after this, 100 women from each Assembly constituency in every district will be honoured at the district level. From all districts, 100 women will be selected for the state-level program titled “Apna Karobaar: Apni Pehal” (Our Business: Our Initiative) under the self-employment scheme to further encourage them. In the state-level program organized by the Punjab Government, each selected woman will be honoured with ₹25,000.
While speaking to the media, Kulwant Singh said that the main objective of Self Help Groups is to encourage economically weaker women in villages to start their own work and become self-reliant, so that poverty can be reduced. For this purpose, 10 to 15 women members are included in one Self Help Group.
He added that seeing women successfully engaged in self-employment will inspire other women as well. He appealed to women to join Self Help Groups in large numbers, as it can help them support themselves and their families in a self-reliant manner.
During the conversation, Kulwant Singh said that Self Help Groups can undertake almost all kinds of work, such as tailoring, embroidery, salon training, health services, food preparation, and catering activities.
He further said that the Aam Aadmi Party government is a government chosen by the people and dedicated to the people. The commitment of the AAP government is to resolve the everyday problems of the people in the shortest possible time. He also said that the government has launched a ₹10 lakh health insurance scheme under the Chief Minister Health Insurance Scheme, which is the first scheme of its kind in the country.
On this occasion, Councillor and senior Aam Aadmi Party leader Ramanpreet Kaur Kumbra (Halqa Coordinator, Women Wing Mohali), Vikas Singla (DPM), Soma Devi (Cluster Coordinator), Radhika (Cluster Coordinator), Sonia (Active Block President), Harmesh Singh Kumbra, Phoolraj Singh (Halqa Coordinator), Amrik Singh, Captain Gulzar Singh, Parmjeet Singh Chauhan (Director, Janta Land Promoters Pvt. Ltd.), Kuldeep Singh, Dalbir Kaur (Block President), Monika Thakur (Block President), Kulwant Kaur (Block President), Sarbjit Kaur (Block President), Rita Balongi (Block President), Neha Bajaj (Block President), Rita (Block President), Rajni Goyal (Block President), Gurvinder Kaur (Block President), Goga Devi, Aarti, Davinder Kaur Sandhu, and Meenu Trehan were also present.
