CHANDIGARH/JALANDHAR, India — Punjab Police have dismantled an interstate illicit weapons network, arresting two men in Uttar Pradesh suspected of supplying arms to local gangs at the direction of handlers in Germany and the United States.
The arrests of Dalesh Kumar and Amit Chahar in Mathura followed a month-long investigation into foreign-linked criminal activities, Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said on Thursday. Authorities recovered 10 pistols and 20 magazines during the operation.
Investigation and Recoveries
The operation, led by the Counter Intelligence unit of Jalandhar, targeted a supply chain that investigators believe fuels local violence through international coordination.
- Seizures: Officers initially recovered five 7.65MM pistols and 10 magazines from a vehicle belonging to Kumar. A subsequent search along the Mathura–Palwal Highway yielded an additional five pistols and 10 magazines.
- Operational Links: Police allege the suspects operated under instructions from overseas handlers to arm criminal modules. The suspects are also linked to a recent extortion-related shooting at a travel agent’s residence in Garhshankar.
- Context: The arrests follow the February detention of two operatives associated with Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), who were found with grenades and an improvised explosive device (IED) later linked to a blast in Himachal Pradesh.
