Punjab Disburses Rs 28.47 Crore in Welfare Pensions to Bathinda Residents

BATHINDA, India, Feb 7 – The Punjab government has released Rs 28.47 crore in social security pensions to 189,812 beneficiaries in the Bathinda district for the month of January 2026, local officials said on Saturday.

The disbursement is part of a broader state initiative to provide monthly financial assistance of Rs 1,500 to vulnerable groups, including the elderly, widows, disabled persons, and dependent children. The funds were transferred directly into the bank accounts of the recipients to ensure transparency and efficiency.

Deputy Commissioner of Bathinda, Rajesh Dhiman, confirmed that the release follows specific directives from the Punjab government to maintain a continuous flow of welfare benefits to the district’s needy populations.

“As per the directions of the Punjab government, the benefits of public welfare schemes are continuously being provided to the needy in Bathinda district,” Dhiman said in a statement.

According to data provided by the Social Security and Women and Child Development Department, the January 2026 allocation was distributed across four primary categories:

  • Old Age Pensions: Rs 19.30 crore disbursed to 128,699 beneficiaries.
  • Widow Pensions: Rs 5.06 crore disbursed to 33,759 beneficiaries.
  • Disabled Persons: Rs 2.21 crore disbursed to 14,738 beneficiaries.
  • Dependent Children: Rs 1.89 crore disbursed to 12,616 beneficiaries.

District Social Security Officer Arshdeep Kaur noted that the administration is focused on accessibility for new applicants. Eligible residents can apply for the pension online through any government service center in the district.

Kaur added that the District Social Security Office, located at the District Administrative Complex, remains open for those requiring assistance with the application process or experiencing technical issues with fund transfers.
