Vaishno Devi Yatra Suspended Due To Heavy Snowfall

Katra, Jan 23

The Vaishno Devi Yatra has been suspended for a while due to heavy snowfall and rain.

In an advisory issued by the Vaishno Devi Shrine Board it has been mentioned that the Yatra has been suspended owing to extreme weather conditions. Snowfall and rains have hit several regions of Jammu & Kashmir.

The weather changed rapidly, bringing the first snowfall of the season to the holy Trikuta Hills and prompting authorities to halt the pilgrimage for safety reasons.

Authorities of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board ordered the suspension of the Yatra after assessing the weather conditions. Pilgrims already at the base camp in Katra have been asked to stay alert and no new yatris are allowed to begin the trek until the weather improves, officials said.Heavy snow and rain also affected daily life in the region, forcing the closure of major roads and highways and tunnels. Traffic on the key Jammu–Srinagar National Highway was also suspended due to snow accumulation and slippery conditions at several points.Officials said the Yatra will resume once weather conditions improve and authorities ensure that the paths are safe for pilgrims.
