Shimla, December 19
Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla inaugurated the training programme for the 2025 batch officer trainees of the Indian Audit and Accounts Service (IA&AS) at the National Academy of Audit and Accounts (NAAA), Yarrows, Shimla.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, he called upon the young officers to remain committed to constitutional values, integrity and professional excellence so that they become true custodians of the high benchmarks set by the audit and accounts service across the country.
The Governor said that the role of audit and accounts officers extended beyond routine financial scrutiny and was crucial for ensuring transparency, accountability and good governance in public administration.
He urged the trainees to strengthen financial accountability and reporting mechanisms at the grassroots level through continuous dialogue and adherence to established procedures.
Recalling the rich legacy of the NAAA, established in 1950, the Governor said the academy had played a pivotal role in promoting financial discipline and sound public finance management in the country.
He noted that it was a matter of pride for the officer trainees to receive professional training at such a prestigious institution and advised them to make full use of the academy’s academic and practical resources.
Shukla stressed that in the 21st century, continuous learning, adaptability and the use of advanced analytical tools were essential for officers entrusted with public funds.
He encouraged the trainees to upgrade their skills in data-driven analysis, modern audit techniques and emerging areas of public financial management to meet contemporary governance challenges.
Officers from Bhutan and Maldives are also part of the current batch, adding an international dimension to the PROGRAMME. On the occasion, the Governor released a Coffee Table Book brought out by the academy.
Director General, NAAA, S. Alok welcomed and honoured the Governor and administered the oath to the trainee officers, while Director Pushpalata proposed a vote of thanks.
Principal Accountant General (Audit) Purshotam Tiwari, Principal Accountant General (Accounts & Entitlement) Sushil Kumar Thakur, Secretary to Governor C.P. Verma and other prominent dignitaries were also present.
