SHIMLA, Feb 9
Himachal Pradesh’s housing authority on Monday approved a series of flagship township projects worth billions of rupees, including a Rs 1,327 crore satellite city designed to decongest the state capital, Shimla.
Town and Country Planning Minister Rajesh Dharmani, chairing the board of the Himachal Pradesh Housing and Urban Development Authority (HIMUDA), green-lit the first phase of the Jathia Devi project. The development will span 21 bighas and feature 919 residential units, serving as a primary peripheral hub to ease the urban strain on Shimla.
The board also sanctioned Rs 5 crore for preliminary work on three new major townships:
- Him Chandigarh: Located at Sheetalpur in Baddi (Solan district), strategically positioned near the industrial border.
- Morni Hills: A new planned development in the Pachhad region.
- Lunj Township: A strategic residential project located near the Kangra Airport.
“We are launching these ambitious projects to meet the rising demand for quality housing while ensuring structured urban growth through planned townships,” Dharmani said.
In a move to modernize state policy, the board approved a Land Pooling Policy, allowing HIMUDA to develop new colonies with the direct consent and partnership of landowners. To improve financial liquidity, a 5% discount was approved for allottees who make lump-sum payments within 45 days.
