In a significant step toward nurturing sports talent in the state and preparing future Olympic champions, the government has taken an important initiative. The Sports Authority of India (SAI) has approved 139 additional Khelo India Centres across the country. Under this initiative, centres for 15 different sports disciplines will also be established in Mahendragarh district.
A spokesperson of the Sports Department informed that centres are planned to be set up in the district for the following 15 sports disciplines: Taekwondo, Wushu, Karate, Jiu-Jitsu, Kurash, Rowing, Kayaking and Canoeing, Sailing, Shooting, Cycling, Gymnastics, Sepak Takraw, Equestrian (Horse Riding), Squash, and Golf.
He further stated that priority for establishing these centres will be given to institutions that have adequate playgrounds and modern training infrastructure for sports. Institutions providing boarding facilities for players and having an excellent track record in sports development and athlete performance will also be preferred.
