Extorted Illegal Money from Truck Drivers

Ludhiana, Feb 25

Chaos prevailed at Ludhiana’s Transport Nagar late Tuesday night when a woman in police uniform was caught posing as a cop and intimidating truck drivers was exposed. The woman, posing as a police officer and extorted money from drivers under the pretext of checking documents. She was caught red-handed by the drivers and handed over to the police.

The accused has been identified as 32-year-old Ramandeep Kaur from Gurdaspur. Police sources said that Ramandeep would wear a police uniform, stop trucks and pressurized drivers into showing documents while extorting money from them.

Initially, the drivers were intimidated by the uniform and began showing their documents, but they grew suspicious of the woman’s appearance and manner of speaking. When some drivers questioned her sternly, she panicked. The drivers then got together, surrounded her and informed the Ludhiana PCR team. Police arrived at the scene and took the woman into custody.

Moti Nagar police station in-charge Inspector Bhupinder Singh Virk stated that the investigation is ongoing. It may be noted that the police have begun the process of registering a case against the accused. The police are also investigating where she obtained the uniform and whether she is linked to any organized gang. Mobile call records and past criminal history are also being probed to determine if this is part of a larger network targeting truck drivers.
