Haryana Assembly Session: Congress MLAs stage walkout

CM Haryana Nayab Singh Saini

Chandigarh, Feb 25

On the fourth day of the Haryana Assembly’s budget session today Congress MLAs staged walk out.

During the question hour when Congress MLAs alleged that several party leaders had been placed under house arrest across the state and at party office in Sector 9. Congress members showed photographs showing leaders being detained. Speaker Harvinder Kalyan said that the restrictions in Chandigarh were a decision of the Union Territory (UT) administration and did not fall under the jurisdiction of the Haryana assembly.

Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini denied any knowledge of house arrests, labeling the Opposition claims as a “new gimmick.” He stated that the UT administration only took action to prevent protests near the Assembly, noting that a designated site in Sector 25 is available for demonstrations.

Earlier in the day, Chandigarh Police had denied permission for a Congress march to the Assembly against the renaming of MNREGA, citing the imposition of Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (formerly Section 144) in the area. Congress claimed its leaders were being prevented from leaving their offices.
