Manali, Feb 25
Jharkhand’s former Chief Minister Champai Soren’s 22-year-old grandson, Veer Soren, died while on his visit to Manali, Himachal Pradesh.
Veer Soren, son of Champai Soren’s son Babu Lal Soren, had arrived at Manali on February 22 with his friends. The group of youths was staying at a private hotel in the Simsa area. On February 23, they toured Solang Valley and the village of Sethan near Hampta Pass.
At around 12:30 PM on Feb 24 (Tuesday), when Veer returned from sightseeing with his friends, he complained of a severe headache. His friends gave him medicine, after which he went to rest and fell asleep. Suddenly, a sound of fall came from his room. His friends saw that Veer had fallen off the bed. As they rushed him to Manali Civil Hospital, foam started coming from his mouth, signaling a critical health condition.
Upon reaching the hospital, doctors performed CPR on Veer for a long time to save him, but his pulse did not return. He was declared dead. Manali Police have taken custody of the body and begun an investigation. Preliminary checks have found no injury marks on the body. Experts believe that oxygen deficiency or ‘High Altitude Sickness’ in the high-altitude areas (Sethan and Hampta Pass) may have caused Veer’s condition to worsen.
As soon as this heart-wrenching news reached them, former Chief Minister Champai Soren left Ranchi for Manali. The police have kept the body safe until the family arrives, after which the postmortem process will be completed.
