Sonipat, May 14

Under the guidance of the National Disaster Management Authority and the Haryana Revenue and Disaster Management Department, the district administration organized a large-scale mock flood disaster simulation exercise in the canal passing through village Mahalana. Conducted under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner and District Disaster Management Authority Chairperson Neha Singh, the exercise aimed to establish coordination between various departments in the event of a flood-like disaster and to assess preparedness for relief and rescue operations.

During the mock exercise, a realistic flood emergency scenario was simulated. As part of the exercise, the control room at the Mini Secretariat received information that three people had drowned in a canal near Mahalana village. Upon receiving the information, the district administration immediately swung into action, and teams from the SDRF (State Disaster Response Force), the police, the health department, the irrigation department, the fire department, and other related departments arrived at the scene. The SDRF and District Disaster Management personnel, equipped with special rescue equipment and a motorboat, launched a search and rescue operation in the canal.

After a lot of effort, the three people were safely rescued. The health department team provided on-site medical assistance to provide immediate first aid to the rescued individuals. The injured were then transported by ambulance to a staging area in the village of Mahalana, from where they were taken to the health control center at the civil hospital, where the health department team monitored the patients’ treatment and health facilities.

Deputy Commissioner Neha Singh stated that the district administration ensures advance preparations every year during the monsoon season, anticipating flooding. She added that time is crucial in disaster relief and rescue operations, so improved coordination and prompt response among all departments are essential. Mock exercises like these test the working methods, resources, and emergency response capabilities of various departments.

She said that during the mock exercise, a district-level operations center was set up at the Mini Secretariat, from where the entire operation was monitored. Additionally, a staging area was established in the village of Mahalana, where resources, equipment, and teams used in relief and rescue operations were deployed.

During the mock exercise, the police department handled security and traffic control in the area, while a fire department team was on standby to deal with any emergency. Irrigation department officials shared information about the canal’s water level and potential danger areas. The electricity department also maintained vigilance regarding necessary safety measures.

Deputy Commissioner Neha Singh stated that the district administration is fully committed to the safety of the public and that all necessary arrangements are being made to effectively deal with any disaster, such as flooding. She appealed to the public to exercise caution around canals, drains, and waterlogged areas during the rainy season and to immediately notify the administration in case of any emergency. During this, Additional Ajay Chopra, SDM Sonipat Subhash Chandra, ACP Rajdeep Mor, District Revenue Officer Sushil Sharma, Tehsildar Kirti, Major Anil Mishra from Army, Assistant Commandant DS Bhati and Dr. Krishna from CRP, XEN of Irrigation Department Nitin Bhatt and officers of all the concerned departments were present.
