Need to Expedite Kishau Dam Project, MoU Between States Should Be Finalized Soon: CM

Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini and Rajasthan CM Bhajan Lal Sharma Participate in Meeting Chaired by Union Jal Shakti Minister

A meeting was held at the residence of Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Patil in New Delhi under his chairmanship with Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma in attendance. Senior officials from both the states also participated in the meeting.

During the meeting, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini raised several common issues related to neighboring states and matters concerning water resources linked to Haryana before the Union Minister. He emphasized the need to expedite the Kishau Dam Project and called for the signing of an MoU among the neighboring states at the earliest regarding the project.

On this, Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Patil directed his Secretary to organize a meeting at the earliest involving officials from Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Delhi and Rajasthan regarding the Kishau Dam Project. He instructed that decisions related to water sharing and electricity generation from the dam should be finalized promptly. Thereafter, a meeting of the Chief Ministers should be convened soon to complete the formalities related to the MoU.

Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini said that the dam project is highly important for all the states as it will provide a substantial quantity of water, which is essential for everyone. He said the project would benefit all the participating states. On this matter, Union Minister C.R. Patil directed officials of his department to initiate action on priority.

Discussion on Bringing Water from Upper Ganga Canal for Faridabad and Palwal

During the meeting, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini also discussed the issue of bringing water from the Upper Ganga Canal in Uttar Pradesh for Faridabad and Palwal districts. He requested the intervention of Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Patil to expedite the implementation of the scheme.

The meeting also included discussions on the Rs. 2,000 crore project related to supplying water from the Munak Canal to Gurugram and Nuh districts. In this regard, the Union Minister assured all possible assistance for the project. Discussions were also held on issues related to Rajasthan concerning the RRTS project. The issue of waterlogging in Najafgarh was also discussed.

Haryana Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi, Additional Chief Secretary, Irrigation and Water Resources Department, Anurag Agarwal, and other senior officials were also present during the meeting.
