Patiala, June 13
Speaking at the Chardikala rally here today, the President Misl Satluj S.Ajay Pal Singh Brar warned that Punjab is confronting one of the most serious economic, social, and cultural crisis in its history. He recalled a time when farmers and working communities enjoyed prosperity, but said today farmers, laborers, government employees and small business owners are weighed down by mounting debt and shrinking incomes.
Brar summed up the state’s plight as “water sinking underground, youth going abroad, and earnings consumed by interest.” He warned that river flows have diminished, groundwater levels are falling, and remaining water is increasingly polluted. At the same time, many youth is leaving Punjab to seek employment overseas, draining the state of talent and potential.
He expressed concern over weakening education and healthcare systems, noting falling enrollment in government schools and a steady shift of health services into private hands putting essential care out of reach for many families. Fiscal pressures, he said, are severe: a large share of the state’s revenue is spent on loan interest, salaries, and pensions, leaving little for development and job creation.
Blaming Delhi-centric policies for much of the damage, Brar accused successive governments of allowing Punjab’s natural and economic resources to be siphoned away. He criticized traditional political parties for failing to protect public interests, alleging that poor governance has fueled unemployment, drug abuse and widespread migration among youth.
To address these challenges, Brar announced a five-year plan to train and mobilize at least 500 politically and socially aware young leaders. The program will teach Punjab’s history, economy, constitutional rights, culture and current challenges, and build grassroots organizing skills so these leaders can effectively advocate for the state.
SGPC member Sardar Karnail Singh Panjoli warned that youth migration is altering Punjab’s demographic balance and poses a long-term threat. Misl Satluj General Secretary Davinder Singh Sekhon announced Sardar Manjeet Singh Chahal as the organization’s candidate for the Patiala Rural Assembly seat; Chahal pledged dedicated service to his constituents.
Khalsa College president Mankirat Kaur Antal urged youth to join the movement. The rally drew a broad list of supporters and leaders who backed Misa Satluj’s commitment to Punjab’s revival through awareness, unity and sustained effort.
