Anti-chitta vehicles to boost Himachal Pradesh Police’s technology-led crackdown on drug trafficking and organised crime.

Shimla: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Tuesday flagged off 18 anti-chitta vehiclesfor the Himachal Pradesh Police, reinforcing the state government’s intensified campaign against drug trafficking and related crimes. The vehicles were flagged off from the State Secretariat in Shimla as part of a broader push towards police modernisation and stronger law-and-order enforcement.

The newly inducted fleet includes 12 anti-chitta vehicles, four vehicles for anti-human trafficking operations, and two ambulances to support rescue and emergency response. Officials said the vehicles would be deployed across identified hotspots and vulnerable corridors to strengthen patrolling, surveillance, and rapid response capabilities.

Anti-Chitta Vehicles to Strengthen Drug Enforcement

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said anti-chitta vehicles equipped with modern technology would play a crucial role in curbing drug trafficking and improving on-ground enforcement. He emphasised that technology-driven policing is essential for real-time surveillance, quick mobilisation, and effective disruption of organised crime networks.

He added that the state government is continuously upgrading police infrastructure through smart equipment, digital monitoring systems, modern vehicles, and advanced communication tools to ensure swift and decisive action against offenders.

Modern Policing Through Anti-Chitta Vehicles and Technology

The Chief Minister said the government is working towards building a technology-enabled, accountable, and people-friendly police system. Special emphasis is being placed on the modernisation of the force, focused training, and phased expansion of operational resources.

He said strengthening the police force through anti-chitta vehicles and advanced mobility support is a key step in protecting youth from drug abuse and ensuring safer communities across Himachal Pradesh.

Crackdown on Drug Networks Using Anti-Chitta Vehicles

Highlighting enforcement outcomes, the Chief Minister said the Himachal Pradesh Police has dismantled major drug networks, seized illegal properties worth crores of rupees, and ensured that traffickers are brought to justice. He noted that strict laws such as the NDPS Actand PIT-NDPSare being enforced rigorously to target the entire drug ecosystem.

Officials said the deployment of anti-chitta vehicles has improved coordination, intelligence-based operations, and rapid interception across districts.

Focus on Police Welfare and Promotions

The Chief Minister also highlighted the government’s focus on boosting morale and career progression within the police force. Over the past year, 274 constables, 98 inspectors, 225 sub-inspectors, and 225 assistant sub-inspectorswere promoted. Additionally, 95 personnel from other cadresand 31 personnel from the driver cadrereceived promotions, strengthening leadership and efficiency at multiple levels.

Himachal Police Tops Digital Policing Rankings

On digital policing benchmarks, the Chief Minister said Himachal Pradesh has secured the top position among hill states, including North-Eastern states, under the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network & Systems (CCTNS). The state has also ranked first in its category under the Inter-operable Criminal Justice System (ICJS).

Under the Investigation Tracking System for Sexual Offences (ITSSO), compliance has exceeded 93 per cent, indicating improved tracking and accountability in investigations.
