Food Commission Sets Up Library Featuring Books on Food Security, Agriculture and Governance

Chandigarh, January 8

In a landmark step to promote knowledge-based governance, the Punjab State Food Commission today inaugurated its new library equipped with an extensive collection of books and research material on the National Food Security Act, Constitutional provisions, judicial decisions, agriculture, nutrition, and public welfare schemes.

The library was jointly inaugurated by Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan and Agriculture & Farmers Welfare Minister Gurmeet Singh Khuddian at the Mahatma Gandhi State Institute of Public Administration (MGSIPA), Sector 26, Chandigarh.

Speaking on the occasion, Sandhwan lauded the initiative, describing it as a vital step toward strengthening constitutional institutions and guiding policymaking related to public welfare. Khuddian said the library would serve as a valuable resource for ensuring the welfare of farmers and the underprivileged sections of society.

Commission Chairman Bal Mukand Sharma said the Punjab State Food Commission has become the first Food Commission in the country to establish a dedicated library of this scale — a move that will serve as an inspiration for other states.

Commission Members Vijay Dutt, Chetan Parkash Dhaliwal, and Jasvir Singh Sekhon added that the comprehensive reference material will significantly enhance the Commission’s research and policy work.
