Chandigarh, January 8:
In a major push to modernize school infrastructure, the Punjab School Education Department has released over ₹17.44 crore for renovation and upgradation works in 852 government schools across the state. The initiative aims to create vibrant, well-maintained, and engaging learning environments for students.
Announcing the move, Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains said the project reflects the government’s commitment to providing quality educational infrastructure and ensuring equitable development across all districts. The funds have been allocated proportionately, with major allocations including ₹2.45 crore for Sangrur, ₹1.58 crore for Amritsar, and ₹1.50 crore each for Ludhiana and Patiala, among others.
Bains directed all District Education Officers (Secondary) to transfer funds directly into the accounts of respective School Management Committees (SMCs) to ensure transparency and encourage local participation in the renovation process.
“A clean, bright, and organized school environment directly influences children’s concentration and learning experience,” Bains said. “We are painting a brighter future for our students and reaffirming that government schools are central to Punjab’s educational transformation.”
He added that the initiative is a key step towards realizing Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s vision of reviving the state’s public education system and aligning facilities with modern pedagogical standards.
