Leaders highlight unity, welfare initiatives and cultural significance of harvest festivals
Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla and Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Sunday extended warm greetings to the people of Himachal Pradesh on the occasion of Lohri and Makar Sankranti , describing the festivals as symbols of joy, prosperity and social harmony.
In his message, Shiv Pratap Shukla said that traditional festivals like Lohri and Makar Sankranti play an important role in bringing happiness and prosperity into people’s lives. He expressed hope that the festival of Lohri would help dispel negativity and usher in good health, peace and well-being for all sections of society.
The Governor noted that such festivals strengthen cultural values and reinforce the spirit of togetherness among people, particularly in rural and agrarian communities where harvest celebrations hold special significance.
Extending his greetings, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu conveyed best wishes to the people of the state, with special emphasis on destitute children, women and senior citizens . He said that the state government’s initiative to provide festival allowance to vulnerable sections would help bring smiles to their faces and make the celebrations more meaningful.
The Chief Minister said that festivals like Lohri offer an opportunity for people to come together, share happiness with family and loved ones, and strengthen bonds of brotherhood and fraternity across society.
He further said that Lohri and Makar Sankranti symbolise the celebration of joy and prosperity associated with the arrival of a new harvest , reflecting the deep cultural and agricultural roots of the state.
