Punjab’s agriculture sector marked several changes in 2025, including a record State Agreed Price (SAP) for sugarcane at ₹416 per quintal, up ₹15 from the previous year.
Agriculture Minister Gurmeet Singh Khudian noted this positions Punjab cane growers as the highest paid in India.
Stubble Burning DeclineFarm fire incidents during the Kharif season fell 53%, from 10,909 in 2024 to 5,114 this year. Over 1.58 lakh subsidized Crop Residue Management machines have been provided since 2018, with 16,000 sanction letters issued this year.
Cotton cultivation area grew 20% to 1.19 lakh hectares, with over 52,000 farmers enrolling for 33% subsidy on PAU-recommended BT Cotton seeds. Direct Seeding of Rice (DSR) area increased 17% to 2.96 lakh acres from 2.53 lakh, supported by ₹1,500 per acre incentive. Basmati rice area rose to 6.90 lakh hectares from 6.81 lakh.
A pilot in six districts—Bathinda, Sangrur, Gurdaspur, Jalandhar, Kapurthala, and Pathankot—shifted over 11,000 acres from paddy to Kharif maize. Incentives included ₹17,500 per hectare plus ₹10,000 under RKVY, with subsidized maize seeds at ₹100 per kg in SAS Nagar and Roopnagar.
