NEW DELHI | 20 February — Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains on Friday met with global technology leaders including Google, NVIDIA, and OpenAI at the India AI Impact Expo 2026 to outline a roadmap for integrating artificial intelligence into the state’s public school system.

Leading a high-powered delegation at Bharat Mandapam, Bains explored scalable EdTech solutions aimed at improving learning outcomes for millions of students. The discussions focused on deploying Personalised Adaptive Learning (PAL) and AI-driven tools to bolster Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) across Punjab’s 20,000 government schools.

Global Tech for Local Classrooms

The delegation, which included School Education Secretary Sonali Giri and Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) Chairman Dr. Amarpal Singh, held technical consultations with engineers and policy leads from Intel, Microsoft, and Deloitte.

The focus remained on how advanced AI models can act as a “force multiplier” for teachers rather than a replacement. Bains emphasized that the state is looking for multilingual tools that can support Punjabi-language instruction and provide real-time monitoring of school infrastructure.

“Our interactions with global leaders like NVIDIA and OpenAI have given us a clear roadmap,” Bains said. “We are building a model where technology acts as a personalized guide for every student in Punjab, regardless of their background.”

Strengthening the Public Stack

The visit coincides with a broader national push for Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI). The Punjab delegation met with officials from the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY) to align state reforms with the national AI strategy.

The minister also visited the Punjab Startup Pavilion, where he reviewed niche AI applications developed by local entrepreneurs. These startups, nurtured under state programs, are working on:

  • AI-assisted assessments to reduce teacher administrative loads.
  • Predictive analytics to identify students at risk of dropping out.
  • Multilingual voice bots to help parents track student progress.

Future-Proofing Education

This tech-centric mission follows the state’s recent rollout of AI-enabled career guidance labs. Bains noted that the goal of “Punjab Sikhya Kranti” is to equip the next generation with the “tools of tomorrow,” ensuring that government school students can compete on a global stage.
