78th Army Day celebrated at ARTRAC, Shimla

Shimla, January 17, 2026:
The 78th Army Day celebrated at ARTRAC, Shimla marked a solemn occasion as Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla attended the event as Chief Guest and lauded the Indian Army’s supreme sacrifice, courage and unwavering resolve in safeguarding the nation.

Addressing officers and personnel at the Army Training Command (ARTRAC), the Governor said that modern security challenges have evolved beyond conventional warfare and now include cyber and information warfare, making the role of training institutions like ARTRAC increasingly significant.

He said that the leadership and doctrinal training imparted at ARTRAC not only strengthens operational preparedness of the Indian Army but also instills ethical values and a strong sense of responsibility among soldiers. Calling Army Day more than a ceremonial observance, he said it symbolises the Army’s unmatched courage and steadfast commitment to protecting India’s sovereignty and integrity.

Referring to Himachal Pradesh’s long-standing association with the armed forces, the Governor said the State is known as both Devbhoomi and Veerbhoomi, with almost every village contributing to the nation’s defence services. He paid tribute to soldiers’ families, stating that their silent sacrifices form the backbone of the country’s military strength.

The Governor also highlighted the Government of India’s continued focus on defence preparedness, noting the increased allocation in the Union Budget 2025–26 for strengthening national security, defence modernization and soldier welfare.

Earlier, the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, ARTRAC Lt. General Devender Sharma welcomed the Governor and outlined the command’s role in preparing the Army for future battlefields. The Chief of Staff, Army Training Command, Lieutenant General S.S. Dahiya proposed the vote of thanks.
