As Delhi’s air quality plummeted to ‘severe’ levels following Diwali celebrations, a video showing fields engulfed in flames went viral on social media, with users claiming it captured large-scale stubble burning in Punjab that caused the capital’s toxic smog.
However, a PTI Fact Check investigation found that the video is not recent. The footage dates back to November 2024, when it was reported as an incident from Dagru village in Punjab’s Moga district. The video is now being circulated out of context amid the ongoing debate over Delhi’s pollution crisis.
