Safety Of Players Is The Government’s Top Priority: Minister Of State For Sports Gaurav Gautam

Orders immediate inspection and repair of unsafe equipment

Chandigarh, November 27

Haryana Minister of State for Sports, Sh. Gaurav Gautam, said that the State Government is committed to providing safe and better sports facilities to players. Expressing deep sorrow over the tragic deaths of two talented players due to the use of unsafe sports equipment during training, he said that such incidents are completely unacceptable under any circumstances, and immediate action is being ensured at the state level to prevent their recurrence.

The Sports Minister has issued directions to Motilal Nehru School of Sports, Rai (Sonipat), Deputy Directors of Sports Boards in Ambala, Hisar, Rohtak, and Gurugram, as well as all District Sports Officers across the state, to conduct a thorough inspection of buildings and sports equipment in all sports complexes. He directed that any equipment found to be unsafe or in dilapidated condition and posing a risk to players’ safety must be removed from use immediately.

Sh. Gautam directed officers to stop the use of any unsafe sports infrastructure in all sports complexes with immediate effect. He said that repair work for such equipment and structures must be carried out without delay using funds available with the District Sports Councils. If funds have already been released by the Directorate of Sports to the Public Works Department or the Sports and Physical Fitness Authority of Haryana for this purpose, the concerned departments must coordinate immediately to ensure that repair and reconstruction work is completed at the earliest.

He further directed that it must be ensured across all sports complexes in the state that no unsafe equipment or damaged buildings are used by players, so that the possibility of any accident is completely ruled out.

The Sports Minister reiterated that the safety of players is the government’s top priority. He also made it clear that any negligence in implementing these directions will not be tolerated, and the concerned officers will be held personally responsible.
