Lohri Celebrations Held Under Kataruchak

Punjab’s vibrant harvest festival, Lohri, was celebrated with great enthusiasm at Anaj Bhawan, Sector 39, Chandigarh, on Friday. Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak led the celebrations, which brought together the entire department to mark the onset of the harvest season.
The festivities began with the traditional lighting of the bonfire, accompanied by lively folk music and dance performances. Employees rejoiced around the fire, singing traditional songs and sharing festive delicacies such as rewri, gajak, and popcorn.
The joyous gathering symbolized prosperity, gratitude, and Punjab’s rich cultural heritage.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that Lohri signifies the end of winter and the beginning of a new harvest, celebrating community spirit and togetherness. He also recalled the legend of Dulla Bhatti, the folk hero who personifies bravery and social justice in Punjabi folklore.
Earlier in the day, Minister Kataruchak chaired a meeting with District Food Supply Controllers (DFSCs), commending them for ensuring a smooth and successful paddy procurement season despite the devastating floods that affected parts of the state.
He urged officials to encourage more beneficiaries to complete their e-KYC under the National Food Security Act, 2013, to continue availing the scheme’s benefits.
Prominent among those present at the event were Principal Secretary Rahul Tewari, Director Varinder Kumar Sharma, Punjab State Food Commission Member Jasvir Singh Sekhon, Additional Directors Dr. Anjuman Bhaskar and Ajayveer Singh Sarao, and GM Finance Sarvesh Kumar.
