Bathinda, March 25
A Bathinda court held a hearing today in the defamation case against actor-turned-MP Kangana Ranaut, who joined via video link. Witness Jasvir Singh gave his statement during the session, and the judge fixed the next date for April 7, 2026.
Complainant Mahinder Kaur’s lawyer, Raghbir Singh Behniwal, told the court two witnesses were lined up on her side. But one, Surjit Singh Phool, had to rush off for urgent work, so only Jasvir’s testimony got recorded.
No progress today in a linked case where Kangana’s passport was impounded—it stems from her controversial social media post during the Delhi farmers’ protests against the farm laws. Mahinder Kaur, from Bahadurgarh Jandian village in Bathinda, filed the defamation complaint the same day Kangana posted, claiming women protesters were paid ₹100 each. She called it a smear on her reputation. Kangana later tried to get the Supreme Court to toss the case, but they said no.
The whole thing’s been dragging through courts for years now, staying in the spotlight.
