Haryana Union of Working Journalists organized a program on World Press Freedom Day
Journalists discussed responsibilities and challenges
Rohtak, May 3:
On the occasion of World Press Freedom Day, a dignified program was organized in Rohtak by the Haryana Union of Working Journalists. Former Haryana Cooperation Minister Manish Grover attended the event as the chief guest.
Journalists from across the district participated and held detailed discussions on press freedom, its role, and current challenges.
Among those present at the program were State President of the Union Manmohan Kathuria, Treasurer Lokesh Jain, District President Manoj Verma, senior journalists Devendra Dangi, Dhirendra Chaudhary, Ravindra Saini, along with a large number of journalists.
District Information and Public Relations Officer (DIPRO) Sanjeev Saini was also specially present and shared his views on the role of the media.In his address, chief guest Manish Grover said that the press is the fourth pillar of democracy and maintaining its independence is a collective responsibility.
He emphasized that as long as journalism remains independent and impartial, democracy will stay strong and the voice of the common people will effectively reach the administration.
He also pointed out that with the growing influence of social media, the threat of fake news and misinformation has increased. In such times, journalists must remain more vigilant and publish news only after verifying facts.
Grover added that the medical-related announcement made by Chief Minister Nayab Saini would be implemented soon. The program also included an interactive session between journalists and the chief guest. It is noteworthy that World Press Freedom Day is observed every year on May 3.
Media Must Remain Impartial: During the program, Manish Grover stressed that a strong democracy requires an independent and impartial media. He said journalism is not just a medium of delivering news but also plays a crucial role in guiding society in the right direction.
He urged journalists to present the truth without any pressure or inducement and to prioritize fact-checking in the era of fake news.
Constitution Gives Strength to Freedom of Expression: Manmohan Kathuria. On this occasion, State President of the Haryana Union of Working Journalists, Manmohan Kathuria, said that the Constitution of India grants every citizen the right to freedom of expression, and it is through this right that the press derives its strength.
He noted that the foundation of journalism lies in the Constitution, which not only grants rights but also defines responsibilities.
Kathuria emphasized that in today’s age of information overload, the responsibility of journalists has increased to work in line with constitutional values—remaining impartial, truthful, and committed to public interest.
