Negligence in Census Duty Will Invite FIR, Suspension: DC Neha Singh

Employees told to complete house verification work within stipulated timeline; citizens assured data will remain confidential

Deputy Commissioner Neha Singh has warned that strict action, including registration of FIRs and suspension, will be taken against employees found negligent or absent from duty during the ongoing Census-2027 work in the district.


Chairing a review meeting on the progress of the first phase of the census, the Deputy Commissioner said some employees engaged in the house verification process have been remaining absent without prior information. She made it clear that such negligence would not be tolerated and directed all employees to remain present on duty and complete the assigned work with honesty and responsibility. Neha Singh emphasized that the census is a crucial national administrative exercise that forms the basis for various government development schemes and policies. She instructed officials to ensure that the work is completed with full transparency, seriousness, and within the prescribed timeline.


During the meeting, officials discussed various aspects related to the first phase of the census, under which data related to houses, families, and basic amenities is being collected. The Deputy Commissioner directed concerned officers to regularly monitor field-level work and ensure that all information is recorded accurately.
She also informed that the first phase of Census-2027 must be completed by May 30 under all circumstances, while the second phase will be conducted from February 9 to February 28, 2027.


Meanwhile, Haryana Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi also reviewed the census exercise with Deputy Commissioners across the state through video conferencing and issued necessary directions. He instructed officials to complete the census work in a transparent, impartial, and time-bound manner. He further stated that Deputy Commissioners have the authority to register FIRs and suspend employees found negligent in their duties.


Appealing to residents, DC Neha Singh urged citizens to cooperate with census employees and provide correct and complete information. She assured that all data collected during the census would remain completely confidential and would only be used for policy formulation and welfare schemes. She further directed employees to ensure no area is left uncovered and that all census-related records and documents are uploaded properly.


Municipal Corporation Commissioner Harshit Kumar, Joint Commissioner Meetu Dhanakhar, City Magistrate Simran, Tehsildar Kirti, District Education Officer Naveen Gulia, and other officials were present during the meeting.
