All Pregnant Women Must Undergo Hepatitis-B Screening: Arti Singh Rao

Haryana Launches Online Portal for Reporting Hepatitis-B and C Cases

Free Screening, Testing and Treatment Available Across the State

Chandigarh, May 18

Haryana Health Minister Arti Singh Rao has appealed to all pregnant women in the state to undergo screening for Hepatitis-B. She said that if a pregnant woman is found positive during testing, her delivery should take place in a district hospital where both HBIG (Hepatitis-B Immunoglobulin) and the Hepatitis-B vaccine are readily available to ensure the protection of the newborn child.

The Health Minister said that an online portal has been launched in the state for reporting cases of Hepatitis-B and C and free screening, testing and treatment facilities are available across Haryana. She informed that the state government has declared Hepatitis-B and C as notified diseases in Haryana. Accordingly, it is mandatory for all health facilities in the state to report cases of Hepatitis-B and C to the health department.

Sharing further information, Arti Singh Rao said that to streamline the reporting of Hepatitis-B and C cases, especially by private health facilities, a dedicated online dashboard/portal has been developed. The portal has been launched on a pilot basis in the first phase in six districts — Panchkula, Kaithal, Nuh, Jind, Hisar and Rewari — and will be implemented across the entire state from June 2026.

She informed that screening, testing and treatment for Hepatitis-B and C are available free of cost in all district hospitals as well as government and government-aided medical colleges across the state. Mission Director, National Health Mission-Haryana, Dr. R.S. Dhillon, while sharing details, said that Hepatitis-B can spread from an HBsAg-positive pregnant woman to her newborn child. This infection can be effectively prevented by administering Hepatitis-B Immunoglobulin (HBIG) and the Hepatitis-B vaccine to the newborn within 24 hours of birth. Both vaccines are available free of cost at all state government health facilities.
