Education System Must Be Secured for the Future, Says Haryana Education Minister Mahipal Dhanda

Haryana Education Minister Mahipal Dhanda laid emphasis on protecting students’ data and strengthening cybersecurity in educational institutions have become critical in the digital age, asserting that securing the education system for the future is now a top priority.

Addressing the first National Workshop on “Protection of Individuals in the Digital Ecosystem”, jointly organised by the Directorate of Higher Education, Haryana, and Indira Gandhi University, Mirpur, at Shiksha Sadan in Panchkula, the minister said students’ lives today extend far beyond classrooms, with academic records, research papers and digital resources increasingly stored online.

He said universities and educational institutions hold sensitive data of lakhs of students, making it imperative to safeguard digital infrastructure. “Even a small security loophole can compromise the integrity of an entire institution. The challenge today is not just to secure individual devices but to protect the entire education system,” he said. Mahipal Dhanda expressed satisfaction over the registration of more than 7,500 participants for the workshop, saying the response reflected growing public awareness about the importance of cybersecurity.

Emphasising the need to protect personal information, the minister said students entrust universities with sensitive family and academic details while seeking admission, and maintaining that trust must remain the government’s highest priority. He said the state government is committed to building a digital education ecosystem that is both accessible and secure, adding that there would be no compromise on data privacy and integrity.

On the occasion, the minister also launched the official mobile application of Indira Gandhi University, Mirpur. Developed by the IT Cell of the Directorate of Higher Education, the secure digital platform will enable students to access university circulars, academic updates, news and other student-related information anytime and from anywhere. He described the app as a significant step towards making education smarter, safer and more technology-driven.

Urging participants to take cybersecurity awareness beyond the workshop, Dhanda said they should become “Cyber Security Ambassadors” and spread the knowledge gained from experts and legal professionals among their families, friends and educational institutions. Additional Chief Secretary, Higher Education, A.K. Singh, Director General, Higher Education, S. Narayanan, Joint Director (Administration), Neeraj Sharma, and other senior officials were present at the event.
