Shimla, January 20, 2026:
Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu today inaugurated the NSUI District Mandi’s ‘Drug-Free Campus’ campaign from Shimla, aimed at sensitising students about the harmful effects of drugs, particularly chitta, and encouraging youth to engage in education, sports and constructive activities.

Addressing the occasion, the Chief Minister said that the ‘Drug-Free Campus’ campaign aligns with the State Government’s vision of building a drug-free Himachal Pradesh and strengthens the ongoing fight against substance abuse. He appreciated NSUI’s initiative and said that youth-led awareness campaigns play a crucial role in preventing drug addiction at the school and college level.

He added that keeping campuses free from drugs is essential for shaping a healthy, disciplined and responsible generation, and such initiatives help channel youthful energy towards positive pursuits.

The State Government has intensified its anti-chitta drive across Himachal Pradesh through a series of strict administrative and enforcement measures. These include the dismissal of police personnel found involved in chitta trade, statewide inspections under the Chitta-Mukt Himachal campaign, awareness programmes at the grassroots level, and increased surveillance to dismantle drug supply networks. The government has consistently reiterated its zero-tolerance policy against drugs, especially synthetic narcotics like chitta, which pose a serious threat to youth.

Speaking on the occasion, NSUI District Mandi President Anit Jaswal said the campaign was inspired by the Chief Minister’s anti-chitta initiatives and seeks to make educational institutions drug-free. He informed that the campaign will feature awareness sessions, anti-drug pledges, anti-chitta walkathons and sports tournaments.

The campaign will run from January 23 to February 15, beginning at the school level and later extending to colleges across the district.

MLAs Sanjay Awasthi and Rakesh Kalia were also present at the inauguration.
