Announces Cash Rewards For Information On Drug Traffickers; Leads Massive Anti-chitta Walkathon in Dharamshala
Dharamshala, December 1
Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu today gave a strong message against drug trafficking while leading the Anti-Chitta Awareness Walkathon in Dharamshala. A large number of school students, citizens, and representatives from various sections of society participated in the rally, which began from Dari Ground and concluded at the Police Ground. The participants carried placards bearing messages of “Drug-Free Himachal” and pledges to eradicate chitta and other narcotics from the state.

The Chief Minister walked alongside the participants throughout the event, symbolizing the State Government’s resolve to eliminate drugs completely. He interacted with schoolchildren, took selfies with them, and motivated them to be active participants in the anti-drug campaign.
While addressing the gathering at Police Ground, Chief Minister Sukhu issued a stern warning to the chitta mafia, asserting that drug peddlers “now have no place to hide anywhere in Devbhoomi.” He said the current State Government has implemented the PIT-NDPS Act — which had remained dormant for years — leading to the detention of 46 major drug traffickers. “Every single rupee earned from drugs will be seized,” he declared, adding that the administration had already confiscated ₹46 crore worth of illegal property. “We will not stop until every trace of Chitta is wiped out from Himachal,” he asserted, emphasizing that this was not only a fight against traffickers but against the entire drug mafia network.
The Chief Minister stated that the Anti-Narcotics Task Force, Special Task Force, police, education, health, and social justice departments were all working together in this mission. “Today, I stand not as a Chief Minister but as a shield to protect your future,” he remarked. The fight against chitta, he added, has entered “mission mode” and is aimed at securing the future of the youth.
Highlighting the government’s proactive stance, Sukhu announced a reward scheme to encourage public participation in the drive against drug trafficking. Informants will be rewarded ₹10,000 for information leading to recovery of up to 2 grams of chitta, ₹25,000 for up to 5 grams, ₹50,000 for up to 25 grams, ₹5 lakh for up to one kilogram, and ₹10 lakh for quantities over one kilogram. Information about drug activities can be shared by calling emergency number 112.
He said that this campaign is not just about enforcement but also about awareness and cooperation. “Together, we have broken the backbone of major drug suppliers and inter-state gangs,” he asserted, urging every citizen to contribute to the mission.
The Chief Minister also administered an anti-drug pledge to the youth. A paraglider landing at Police Ground from Indru Nag, carrying an anti-chitta banner, drew special attention during the event.
Several dignitaries, including Agriculture Minister Chander Kumar, Ayush Minister Yadvinder Goma, Technical Education Minister Rajesh Dharmani, HPTDC Chairman Raghubir Singh Bali, Deputy Chief Whip Kewal Singh Pathania, Vice-Chairman of the Himachal Pradesh Planning Board Bhawani Singh Pathania, and multiple MLAs were present. Chief Secretary Sanjay Gupta, DGP Ashok Tiwari, and senior officials also attended the event.
