Chandigarh, December 17
Haryana’s Additional Chief Secretary, Health Department, Sh. Sudhir Rajpal, has directed officials to target a sex ratio of 920 by the end of this year, emphasizing the need for focused efforts to ensure registration of all newborn births, particularly in urban and migrant-dominated areas.
Chairing the weekly meeting of the State Task Force constituted to improve the sex ratio, Mr. Rajpal noted that consistent departmental initiatives have led to steady improvement in Haryana’s sex ratio. As of November 15, 2024, the ratio stood at 907, which has now increased to 916, marking an improvement of nine points over the previous year.
The meeting was attended by Secretary, Health Department, Sh. R.S. Dhillon, Director General Dr. Manish Bansal, Dr. Kuldeep Singh, Director Dr. Virender Yadav, and other senior health officials.Mr. Rajpal lauded the progress made so far but urged officers to intensify on-ground action to meet the year-end target. He directed that in slum areas and localities with low levels of birth registration, special registration camps and awareness drives should be conducted.
This, he said, would help ensure every newborn’s record is updated and families can access government welfare benefits in a timely manner. Reiterating the state government’s commitment to gender equality, Mr. Rajpal said that coordinated efforts between health and local authorities were essential to sustain the upward trend in Haryana’s sex ratio and achieve the 920 mark by December 31, 2025.
