Justice Suryakant to Inaugurate ITI at Bhondsi Jail on Dec 6

Initiative Aims to Transform Prisons into Centres of Reform, Skill Development and Rehabilitation

Chief Justice of India Justice Surya Kant will inaugurate a newly constructed Industrial Training Institute (ITI) at District Jail, Bhondsi, Gurugram, on 6 December 2025. The ITI has been set up with the objective of providing technical and vocational skill training to prisoners, enabling them to secure dignified livelihoods and reintegrate into society after release.

This initiative reflects the judiciary’s growing emphasis on turning jails into centres of reform, rehabilitation, and skill development. Through the ITI, inmates will receive formal technical education and hands-on training in various trades, helping them build employable skills and reduce the likelihood of reoffending.

Ahead of the Chief Justice’s visit, Inspector General (Jails) B Satish Balan, along with a delegation of judicial officers from the Punjab and Haryana High Court, inspected the jail premises on Monday. The delegation included Additional District Judges Amit Grover, Sunil Chauhan, Sunil Diwan, Mahavir Singh, CJM Rajat, Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority, and CJM Rakesh Kadyan.

During the inspection, the IG (Jails) reviewed the ITI’s infrastructure, training capacity, and facilities, and issued necessary directions to ensure all arrangements are completed smoothly and as per standards before the CJI’s arrival. Jail Superintendent Vivek Chaudhary briefed the delegation on the schedule, stating that on 6 December, the Chief Justice will first visit the Skill Development Center and Construction Hall inside the jail, followed by addressing a seminar at RTC, Bhondsi.

The judicial delegation also toured the jail’s workshop, jail radio, computer lab, electronics lab, physics lab, music room, salon, and skill development centre.
