Senior Congress leader and MLA from Bholath, Sukhpal Singh Khaira, has strongly condemned the open misuse of government treasury, government transport, and administrative machinery by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government for the political rally organized in Moga under the guise of an alleged campaign against drugs.

Khaira alleged that thousands of government buses, government vehicles, and administrative resources were used to gather crowds for this event, due to which daily commuters, students, and employees in several districts faced severe hardships. He said that government transport services were badly affected and many passengers were stranded on the roads, exposing the government’s insensitivity towards the common people.

Khaira said that the Bhagwant Mann government has turned the government machinery into a political tool to polish its image using taxpayers’ money. He stated that where this money should have been spent on improving basic services, the government is squandering it on political spectacles and propaganda.

Raising questions on the credibility of the government’s so-called war against drugs, he said that ground realities show the growing drug problem in Punjab. Khaira said that incidents of drug addiction, overdose deaths, and easy availability of narcotics continue to surface from different parts of the state, which expose the government’s failure in this matter.

He said that if the government is serious about eradicating drugs, it should focus on dismantling supply networks, strengthening law enforcement agencies, and expanding de-addiction and rehabilitation facilities, rather than spending on expensive political events.

Khaira demanded that the Punjab government immediately stop the misuse of public resources for political purposes and ensure that government transport and administrative machinery are used only for public welfare. He also appealed to the Chief Minister to issue a transparent report on the actual actions taken to control drug trafficking and addiction in the state.

He said that instead of propaganda-based events, the government should focus on concrete actions, because the people of Punjab want results, not political drama.
