Economic Progress Essential to Address Punjab’s challenges: Ajay Pal Singh Brar

Zira June 8

Addressing a large gathering at the Charhdi Kala rally, Misl Satluj President Ajay Pal Singh Brar asserted that Punjab’s economic progress is crucial to resolving the state’s pressing challenges. He identified unemployment, the agricultural crisis, industrial stagnation, the growing menace of drug abuse, and the migration of youth abroad as some of the most urgent issues confronting Punjab. According to Brar, sustainable economic growth is the foundation for addressing these challenges and restoring prosperity to the state.

He emphasized that increased investment, industrial development, and the establishment of agro-processing units would generate employment opportunities and provide Punjab’s youth with promising prospects within their own state, thereby strengthening the overall economy. Criticizing the entry tax imposed by Himachal Pradesh on vehicles from Punjab, Brar described the levy as unjustified and urged the Punjab Government to formulate policies that safeguard the state’s economic interests. He noted that, with toll taxes already being collected on major highways, the additional entry tax places an undue burden on Punjabi transporters and travelers.

Brar further suggested that Punjab could generate additional revenue by imposing taxes on commercial vehicles from outside the state that utilize Punjab’s roads and infrastructure. Announcing a series of 17 Chardi Kala rallies to be held across Punjab over the next two months, he stated that the objective of these events is to bring the state’s real issues before the public and policymakers and to promote accountable, people-centred politics rather than mere political rhetoric. During the rally, Brar appointed Davinder Singh Sekhon as the Constituency In-charge for Zira. Accepting the responsibility, Sekhon pledged to continue serving the people of Punjab and the organization with dedication and sincerity.
