*MCB teams create awareness on segregation of wet and dry waste*
Bathinda, June 15 :
Following the initiative Mission Clean Punjab launched by Minister for Local Bodies Mr Harjot Singh Bains, the teams of Municipal Corporation Bathinda (MCB) conducted checking and repair of motors installed at various pumping stations across the city.
Giving this detail, the Municipal Commissioner Lovejit Kalsi stated that these motors pump out the monsoon water from low lying areas within hours of downpour. She added that all the motors have been checked, faulty ones have been restored and all other necessary works have been completed.
Besides this the work on de-silting and cleaning of gullies and water chambers is also being done. Two super sucker machines and one mini suction machine are working to clean the silt. Apart from this small tractor mounted machines have also been working to clean the sewers. The Commissioner added that besides this, teams from Municipal Corporation are spreading awareness in public on segregation of wet and dry waste. The teams conducted awareness activity on Ajit road and Janta Nagar. People were appealed to separate kitchen waste from plastic, glass, Styrofoam, paper etc before giving it to the waste collector.
Also the hospitals located on Ajit Road were encouraged to ensure that the bio medical waste is segregated from regular waste and disposed as per the government norms. The Community Facilitators and Motivators of Municipal Corporation Bathinda conducted sensitization and training session for the dedicated sanitary workers at AIIMS Bathinda. The session focused on safe waste management practices, personal hygiene and the correct use of safety equipment to ensure their health and well-being. Sanitary workers were asked to maintain their health while handling the waste at hospital.
