A major step towards strengthening rural livelihoods and reviving traditional healthcare systems was taken today as a tripartite MoU was signed to promote medicinal plants cultivation in border areas of Himachal Pradesh. The agreement was signed in the presence of Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu.
The Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Indian Army, the Government of Himachal Pradesh and Shree Baidyanath Ayurved, Jhansi, with the objective of encouraging large-scale cultivation of medicinal and aromatic plants in selected remote and border villages of the State.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said that the initiative would not only revive traditional Ayurvedic practices but also ensure sustainable livelihoods for border villagers, especially in geographically challenging regions. He emphasized that the collaborative framework reflects the State Government’s commitment to inclusive growth and ecological sustainability.
Medicinal plants cultivation in border areas to boost rural economy
Under the MoU, the Ayush Department of the State will provide technical expertise and training to farmers on scientific cultivation practices of medicinal plants. The participating company will ensure assured procurement at pre-fixed prices and supply high-quality seeds and saplings, reducing market risks for farmers.
The Indian Army will play a key role by facilitating training programmes and technical sessions for villagers, leveraging its strong presence and logistical capabilities in border and remote areas.
The agreement was signed by Col. T.S.K. Singh on behalf of the Indian Army, Director Ayush Rohit Jamwal representing the State Government and Shailesh Sharma on behalf of Shree Baidyanath Ayurved.
Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi, Ayush Minister Yadvinder Goma, Secretary Ayush Priyanka Basu, Lt. General D.G. Mishra, Brigadier Anurag Pandey and senior officers of the State Government and Indian Army were present on the occasion.
