Shimla | January 20, 2026

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu today directed the Health Department to ensure that patients visiting public healthcare facilities receive quality medicines in government health institutions across Himachal Pradesh.

Chairing a meeting of senior officers of the Health Department, the Chief Minister said that the State Government would soon invite tenders worth around ₹100 crore for the procurement of medicines. He emphasized that only reputed pharmaceutical manufacturers would be encouraged to participate in the process to ensure high standards of quality.

The Chief Minister stated that medicines would be procured directly from manufacturers, ensuring that patients receive world-class drugs in government hospitals, medical colleges and health centres. He added that, if required, suitable amendments would also be made to the Drugs Act to safeguard public interest and maintain strict quality control.

Quality medicines in government health institutions a key health reform priority

Highlighting the government’s ongoing healthcare reforms, the Chief Minister said that strengthening the public health system remained a top priority. He underlined that access to quality medicines was fundamental to delivering effective and reliable healthcare services.

Directing the H.P. State Civil Supplies Corporation, the Chief Minister said that medicines for Jan Aushadhi and other medicine outlets should also be procured directly from pharmaceutical companies rather than authorised dealers.

He further clarified that while the State Government has adequate financial resources, public funds must be utilised strictly in the interest of people’s welfare.

Health Secretary Priyanka Basu Ingty, Managing Director H.P. State Civil Supplies Corporation Rajeshwar Goyal, Special Secretary Health Jitender Sanjta, Director of Health Services Dr. Gopal Beri and other senior officers were present in the meeting.
