Academics and Youth Congress members donate ₹1 lakh to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, highlighting youth-led civic responsibility and institutional solidarity.

In a significant gesture of social responsibility, researchers from Panjab University, Chandigarh, along with members of the Himachal Pradesh Youth Congress, on Tuesday presented a cheque of ₹1 lakh to Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu for the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. The contribution was made under the leadership of Chhattar Singh Thakur, President of the Himachal Pradesh Youth Congress.
The cheque was handed over by Dr. Rohit Bhota and Ashish Pal, representing the academic community and the youth organisation. The amount was collectively raised through voluntary contributions from professors, students, and research scholars of Panjab University, reflecting coordinated institutional participation in the relief effort.
Funds Raised Through Academic Community Support
According to members of the delegation, the donation was mobilised through a collective initiative within the university campus. Faculty members, doctoral researchers, and postgraduate students contributed voluntarily to the fund, emphasising the role of academic institutions in addressing societal challenges beyond education and research.
Those involved stated that the effort was driven by a shared sense of responsibility towards people affected by emergencies and hardships in Himachal Pradesh. The organisers said the initiative also aimed to encourage greater participation from educational institutions in public welfare activities.

Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu expressed his appreciation for the contribution and thanked the academic community and youth leaders for supporting the state’s relief initiatives. He noted that such gestures strengthen the government’s capacity to respond to medical emergencies, natural disasters, and humanitarian needs across the hill state.
The Chief Minister said that public participation plays a crucial role in ensuring timely assistance to those in distress and encouraged similar initiatives from institutions, organisations, and individuals.
