Voter Lists’ Special Intensive Revision (SIR) to Be Conducted Transparently in Bathinda District: Rajesh Dhiman

–BLOs to conduct door-to-door visits and fill Special Intensive Revision forms from June 25 to July 24, 2026

–Entire election machinery deployed in the district, including 1192 BLOs, 130 Supervisors and 6 Returning Officers for SIR: District Election Officer

Bathinda, May 18

District Election Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner Bathinda, Rajesh Dhiman, stated that as per the notification issued by the Election Commission of India, Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls will be carried out in the state.

Under this drive, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) in Bathinda district will conduct door-to-door visits from June 25, 2026 to July 24, 2026 to get voters’ forms filled.Speaking to media persons, he said that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists in Bathinda district will be carried out in a completely transparent manner.

For this purpose, the entire election machinery has been deployed in the district, including 1192 BLOs, 130 Supervisors, 6 Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and six Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs).Mr. Rajesh Dhiman said that each BLO has been assigned around 1200 voters for the SIR process. As per the directions of the Chief Electoral Officer, Punjab, all preparations related to the SIR exercise in the district have been completed. Special training will also be imparted to ensure the smooth completion of the revision process.

The District Election Officer said that all voters in the district will have to fill forms under the SIR process so that their correct details can be included in the electoral rolls. The primary objective of the Election Commission of India is to include every eligible citizen in the voter list and remove the names of ineligible persons. He added that having duplicate votes is a punishable offence under Indian law, carrying provisions for imprisonment as well. He appealed to all voters to fully cooperate with the BLOs.In this regard, BLOs will contact households three times to ensure that no eligible voter is left out. Aadhaar cards will only be accepted as a source of identity and not as proof of citizenship or residence.

The Deputy Commissioner informed that work related to training BLOs and other preparations for the SIR process will be undertaken from June 15 to June 24, 2026. “Our objective is to include every eligible citizen in the voter list and remove ineligible persons. The work of adding and deleting votes is being carried out as per the directions of the Election Commission,” he said.Rationalisation of polling stations in the district will also be completed by July 24, 2026, under which each booth will have approximately 1,200 voters.

He further informed that under the pre-SIR mapping exercise, the district’s six assembly constituencies have 549,638 male voters, 502,945 female voters, and 29 third-gender voters, taking the total voter count to 1,052,612. Out of these, mapping of 914,226 voters has already been completed, which constitutes 86.85% of the total voters.From June 25 to July 24, 2026, BLOs will conduct door-to-door visits and distribute forms. Providing further details about the SIR process, he said that the rationalisation of polling stations will be completed by July 24, 2026, and the draft electoral roll will be published on July 31, 2026.

Claims and objections regarding the voter lists can be submitted from July 31, 2026 to August 30, 2026. Disposal of claims and objections will take place from July 31, 2026 to September 28, 2026. The final electoral roll will be published on October 1, 2026.The District Election Officer appealed to all voters in the district to fully cooperate with the BLOs during the Special Intensive Revision being conducted by the Election Commission of India.

For the convenience of voters, the voter lists with the qualifying date of January 1, 2003 have been linked with the current electoral rolls so that voters do not face any difficulty in locating old voter lists.The Deputy Commissioner also appealed to all political parties in Punjab to appoint their Booth Level Agents (BLAs) so that the exercise can be completed smoothly. Election Tehsildar Mrs. Harjinder Kaur was also present on the occasion.
