Nature Trails, Boating, and Eco-Huts Draw Crowds Amid Lush Greenery

Chandigarh, January 15

The Mohali Forest Division’s efforts to protect the environment and boost eco-tourism in the Siswan-Mirzapur forest area are gaining strong public support.

Forest & Wildlife Preservation Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak highlighted that the 5-km Siswan to Mirzapur Nature Trek, which takes about 1.5 hours, has become a hit among visitors. Its appeal lies in the natural beauty, lush green forests, scenic viewpoints, and watch towers.

Tourists are also enjoying boating facilities, a well-equipped canteen, and three eco-huts at Siswan Dam, all proving highly popular.More Trails on the Way, Plus Community EventsThe division is developing additional nature trails and trekking routes, set to open to the public soon.

On December 25, a successful Nature Awareness Camp at Siswan Dam featured a cycling event followed by a trekking program. It drew large crowds from Chandigarh. Regular educational visits by school children to the Siswan Nature Awareness Camp aim to foster environmental conservation among the youth.

Mohali Forest Division continues to prioritize nature conservation, responsible eco-tourism, environmental education and community involvement.

Skill Training Creates Jobs for Forest-Dependent Villages

To empower local communities, self-help groups in Siswan, Gochar and Nada villages are receiving skill training in pickle making, beauty parlour services, cloth bag making, and tailoring. These initiatives aim to generate new employment opportunities.

In a recent community service effort, the Siswan village Forest Committee distributed utensils to residents.
