Repeated Absence from Review Meetings
Sonipat, June 4
Electoral Registration Officer and ADM of Sonipat Assembly constituency, Subhash Chandra, has directed the registration of an FIR against Satish, a clerk with the Sonipat Municipal Corporation, for alleged negligence in election-related work under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) Campaign-2026 and repeated absence from review meetings.
According to Subhash Chandra, Satish had been appointed as a Booth Level Officer (BLO) at Booth No. 118 of the Sonipat Assembly constituency for work related to the Special Intensive Revision Campaign being conducted in the district as per the instructions of the Election Commission of India. Serious negligence was found in the discharge of the duties assigned to him.
The ADM stated that the concerned BLO remained absent from review meetings held on multiple occasions. Despite repeated requests seeking clarification, he failed to submit a satisfactory response, indicating that he had not treated the election-related assignment with the seriousness it required. Subhash Chandra said instructions have been issued to register an FIR against Satish under Section 32 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950, and relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for negligence in SIR work.
He emphasized that election work is a vital constitutional responsibility linked to the democratic process and that deliberately obstructing election-related duties or disobeying official instructions constitutes a serious offence. The ADM directed all BLOs, supervisors and associated officials to carry out voter list revision work in their respective areas with complete dedication, transparency and timeliness. He stressed that the guidelines issued by the Election Commission must be strictly followed and that any form of negligence should be avoided.
He further stated that the district administration is committed to preparing a fair and error-free electoral roll and that strict action would be taken against any officer or employee found obstructing the process. Strengthening democracy requires every official involved in election work to discharge their responsibilities with honesty and dedication, he added.
