Jalandhar, June 4
In a decisive step towards making Punjab a drug-free state, Horticulture and Defence Services Welfare Minister Mohinder Bhagat said that the Punjab Government’s flagship anti-drug campaign, ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’, has successfully transformed into a vibrant mass movement.
Addressing a high-level review meeting of the Ward Defence Committees, the Minister stressed that no social evil can be completely eradicated without active public participation. Praising the members of the Ward Defence Committees, Mohinder Bhagat described them as the real catalysts in the fight against drug abuse at the grassroots level. He said the initiative has received an overwhelming response from the public, resulting in more than 2,500 swift and concrete law enforcement actions across the region based largely on feedback and information provided by committee members.
“Our government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, is committed to completely eliminating—not just reducing—the drug problem. This is a joint venture between the public and the local administration,” the Minister said. He added that senior administrative and police officials are working in close coordination with local communities to review affected areas and intensify efforts to eliminate the drug menace.
Echoing the Punjab Government’s resolve to eradicate drug abuse, senior AAP leaders Nitin Kohli and Dinesh Dhall commended the tireless efforts of the Ward Defence Committee members. They said that prompt action has already been taken on more than 2,500 critical reports related to drug activities received from the public, reflecting a determined crackdown on the menace.
They further stated that the Punjab Government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, is focusing on connecting youth with sports by creating world-class sports infrastructure across the state. In this regard, they noted that the first-ever Asian Hockey Championship is also being organised. Kohli and Dhall emphasized that sports have the potential to keep youngsters away from drugs and play a significant role in building a healthier and more progressive society.
